Common Supplies Used

Layla's Owner:  Here are the top 4 items we have been using most often:
- (20-25) pee-pee pads per day. Drew has been using the supply from your garage
- Almost 2 wet food cans. Also from your garage
- 1+ large bowl of dry puppy food (yellow bag has been great)
- fresh water

Alex & Cosmo Investigate

The day after the puppies arrived, Pal Alex & Father Cosmo were very curious about the smell where the birthing occurred.  Sniffing and more sniffing didn't provide any answers.

Through the cracks & feeding

Although Layla enjoys the cushions, the puppies occasionally crawl away and drop down.  Unable to walk/stand, it is too difficult to get back.  Putting more cushions doesn't help much.  We needed to prop bin lids along the sides of the cushions to keep the puppies up on top.  It is tiresome for the pups to cram in with one another so they will fall asleep nearby...as long as they can smell and feel Layla, they are content.  Before this photo was taken, Layla was sitting up and 5/9 puppies were sleeping.  Stroking her head and massaging her ears/neck/mouth relaxed her to lay on her side.  We pick up some of pups and put them near a gland to feed.  Although they were sleepy, they instinctively know feeding time is priority and they instantly start sucking.  We left the other 2 pups asleep and will rotate them to mom so it's not always a big struggle.

Back to Work

Here Layla ate (she doesn't really have a meal because she gobbles 5-8 bites) and heads back to her mommy duties.  As long as it's quiet and comfortable and she's near her pups, she's content.

Cleaning Up/Update

Layla is doing great! Eating wonderfully...good milk production for her pups. She has also cleaned them very well and chewed off their umbilical cords which is normal.  The puppies' poo is beginning to develop more color and density.  Because the puppies can't walk away from their pee & poo, it is up to Layla to lick her puppies clean which she does very well.  It is normal for Layla to even lick the stuff off the pads/ground because she's trying to keep the area clean. We change the disposable pads about every 3-4 hours or 5-7 times a day.  Between Layla's diligence and our support, the family has a good place.

Morning breakfast & rest

In the AM we call Layla to go outside to relieve herself and eat her breakfast. Today she was hungry and ate about 10 bites quickly but we closed the patio door to keep the room warm.  It's about 65 degrees today.  When she couldn't hear her puppies, she wanted back inside even though she wasn't done with her food.  We brought her food into her pen.   Here her pups get back to feeding and cuddling.

At her home and at ours

Layla is brought into garage with her babies after we arrived on scene.
